What is being done to help?
Reforestation
Reforestation or rebuilding forests is the opposite to deforestation. It is simply replanting trees where a forest was. There are many projects who replenish and restore some of the world’s most devastated rainforests.http://www.edenprojects.org/
Education
Education is such an important factor when saving rainforests. Many organsations aim to educate people on:
-
the importance and necessity of rain forests.
-
destruction caused by rain forest timber
-
buying sustainable rainforest products and avioding products that are harmful to rainforests. For example palm oil and paper.
Partnerships with locals
Encouraging people who live near rain forests to harvest the nuts, fruits, medicines etc rather than waiting for some one to destroy everything. By speaking with the local people living in, and around, the rainforest, people can also learn from them about where to focus their conservation work.
Eco tourism
Taking people on tours though rainforests to show them what they are losing.
Introducing new laws
World governments have created certain laws to assist in saving rainforests. These include not being able to build roads and large projects in rainforest areas.
